Musim Buah YUM YUM!! Ulu Yam! 15th July 2007

ehSalam..Ulu_yam_yang_permai

This was when I went back for a day trip to my Ummi’s family’s hometown in Ulu Yam, Selangor on a Sunday. I went to Ulu Yam with Ummi, my sis and Mak Ngah. We had a mission. We were there to collect the fruits from my late grandmother’s orchard. It’s like one of the mos t fantastic fruit seasons this year, where you could see truckloads of Durians on the highways, and the views I love the most when I reached Ulu Yam, the residents sold variety of local fruits on the roadsides.. from Durian, Manggis (Mangosteen), Nenas (Pineapples), Mata Kuching, Rambutan to Petai (ok that’Greens not a fruit).

Firstly when we arrived around 9am in Ulu Yam (note that driving to Ulu Yam using the highway from Batu Caves is like so challenging because of the steep corners but I ALWAYS love it.. u would pass by the serene dams I love it). Ok we when to a relative’s shop, I call her Nenek Sitam where her Nasi Lemak was known as the best in the area. As expected, by 9am her Nasi Lemak was sold out. What a bummer. However Nenek Sitam did not want to disappoint us, she asked her son to buy rice from another Nasi Lemak stall nearby, so it was our rezeki after all :) Trully enough, her sambal was really tasty, it was cooked with lots of onions so I guess that’s how it became so sodap. Ok most of the time during breakfast on the wooden bench, Nenek Sitam was speaking in Minang lingo most of the time. My mother’s side actually came from Bukit Tinggi, Sumatera, Indonesia. While from my father’s side, we have the Bugis blood, also from Indonesia. So again for those who kept thinking I come from Arab ancestry, it’s an obUlu_yams_gymnast_2vious no-no coz I am so Malay :p

Then we went to the orchard’s caretaker’s house which is nearby. He produced us with huge baskets of durians and what else, I took the parang that he gave me, and skillfully started to chuck off the kulit durian to reveal the creamy, heavenly-scented sweetmeats (ceyyy) :p Durian kampung is the best, small in size yet so so so tasty.. (menjamah dengan khusyuk tanpa berkata apa-apa kerana terlalu nikmat).

Hmm..then my sis and I went to the river nearby his house.. alahai seronoknya rumah dekat sungai ni…what else..I started to take snapshots of my sister..who coincidentally was wearing green top with khakis.. so she felt kinda perasan that she was a model of Giordano when she really blended in with the background of mother nature :) From nice poses to weird poses, you could check out below :p However the best part was when I discovered a durian floating in the river (see I told you durians were EVERYWHERE) I took it and since there were already cracks on the skin, we managed to open it up and eat it. Alangkah sedihnya… durian itu sudah sangat masak.. rasanya tersangatlah menyerupai tempoyak… atoiii.. but what the heck.. tempoyak pun tempoyak lah.. it’s free durian you see.. and enjoying it while your soaking in the river is such a relaxing feeling.. better than pampering yourself in the spa..trust me hehe ;)
